With my new SS playthrough, I've as well decided to get rid of my #1 annoying griefer and troll from vanilla FO4 .....Preston Garvey, that free loading, danger fugitive yet ship 'the general' everywhere to practice his mad scheme of acquisition the wasteland settlements even before Nuka Earth raiders decided that was their affair besides.
And so for science, I installed this mod - https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/30575/
Works like a charm so far, including getting rid of the annoying quest in journal for completionists like me - it auto completes the initial Preston mission if you ran into the museum to grab the bobblehead + magazine while avoiding talking to Preston (the prior method of ignoring him).
Best still, when you pop Preston in the head, his own grouping falls on him and helps impale since he's auto tagged as hostile to everyone. I killed Preston, looted his corpse, and left the miserable Marcy, Jun and entire mama gang of losers in the museum.
The only issues seems to be Codsworth sitting in front end of player house area in Sanctuary one time released as a companion, only to be fair that bug exists without this modern - if you lot fifty-fifty get shut to Concord to auto trigger the initial run into-Preston mission, then Codsworth is forever locked to resting in Sanctuary.
You can assign him to another settlement, and he counts equally a resident of that new settlement, but he always car paths back to sit in Sanctuary. He's still able to go as companion, but once released ever goes back to Sanctuary spot - he doesn't get freed from this perman military camp location until Preson and gang return from the museum to claim Sanctuary as their new gratis loading base of operations. But either the avert Preston method or modernistic skips this part and so I just live with parking Codsworth later on getting his perk.
Modernistic author was pretty articulate he hadn't tested extensively then I'1000 going to meet if anything borks down the line merely so far none of the Minuteman stuff has triggered and I've been able to take over settlements as my ain independent self so far.

To prevent the Codsworth "parking". Avert Codsworth and the Museum until after discovering Diamond Urban center. Once within DC you can beat anxiety dorsum to Sanctuary and talk to Codsworth who volition and so be available equally a companion and volition patrol around Sanctuary.

Oh... the only settlements that requires a faction to claim information technology are Bunker Hill and the Aerodrome. All others can be Sole Survivor claimed.

Hmmm, might be worth restarting my new game equally only couple RL days in. Thanks for this tip, was always wishing could gets Codsworth not parking esp at present that companions tin can exist city leaders.

Bunker Hill can even so be claimed without siding with the Institute. You just need to be banished commencement, do Kessler'due south quest and talk to her.
Really, the only requirement is getting banished or completing Battle of Bunker Hill, you get the settlement. Even if you lot've never even talked to Kessler before hand. (Which makes for an interesting dialog)
You tin can't exercise Kesslers quest (Prep School) unless you consummate Deb'southward quest (Traffic Jam) offset.

Codsworth non parking worked, thanks. (via direct to DC and return before coming together Codsworth and Preston).
I avoided COC commands just to be safe, simply did utilize TCL to run ~200 feet in the air to avoid hostiles on way to Diamond Metropolis.
Just my game got confused re: letting me have Sanctuary - after Vault 111, got Sanctuary discovery point by roundabout road towards front of bridge to stay well clear of coming together Codsworth, and running to DC, I fast traveled back.
Met Codsworth who now became companion, but after usual killing roaches/bugs, workshop refused to unlock. Thought it was mods, simply nope - unloading all mods same issue. Then I read it might demand further quest trigger so I went ahead downwardly the road to meet Dogmeat, and shortly as that was done Sanctuary was unlocked.
Then I went and shot Preston in the caput...sooooo satisfying.

Info for anyone who tries this mod to impale preston and impacts on game quests, etc - it is not in my opinion a 'bug' but logical extension of killing preston --> e.g. result
Afterward whacking Preston, I went to Abernathy to practice the locket quest and gain ownership of the settlement, just turns out Blake doesn't give the quest anymore - which makes sense in one case I looked it upward considering that quest is a Minuteman quest.
I actually wanted to use Blake, Connie, and/or the girl as possible city leaders (using a mod that turns unique NPCs into leaders), merely I wanted that subcontract more - and only way was to murder the entire family.
Then I did what had to be done and at present have a zip pop Abernathy.

Visit Abernathy and so it's discovered, don't' talk to anyone. Head over to USAF Satellite Station Olivia and grab the "locket" that will at present be in the tool box. (why you lot have to notice AF first)
Go back and talk to Blake...

Just an FYI and YMMV but for me the experiment with this mod allowing killing off Preston has number of impacts I don't feel is worth it.
Having gotten further into my newgame, I see general pattern where merely well-nigh any settlement that has specific take over quest - even non-minuteman related - is no longer acquirable via quest and y'all end up having to murder the owners.
one-Abernathy - had to kill Blake, Connie, etc --locket quest doesn't spawn, either normally or avoiding talking to Blake before going to kill raiders and bring locket which also no longer spawns.
2-Gray Garden - Supervisor White no longer gives quest allowing ownership without killing the robots (this original quest is totally not-minuteman related and so seems this modern cancels out both MM and other settlement quests)
three-Oberland Station - same as to a higher place, no longer go the mission to take out enemies in subway to ain settlement, either before or after already killing off subway mobs.
Could keep simply for many others, basically the take over quest is locked out - to be off-white, you Can still own all settlements I've come across just fine, but requires killing off original owners.
I was more than than happy to pop Preston in the head. In fact, felt proficient. Existent....good. But I don't desire to murder about the settlers to gain the settlements so I'm abandoning this modernistic and starting new game.

Ditto - my old way was run into preston, get his perk, do quest up to getting Castle and clean version of it, and then exile him to some far off, hellhole settlement I never intend visit again (and never listen to radio Liberty)
But I just detest him so much I was looking for actually removing his game bear upon vs just ignoring information technology. Mod idea to kill him was good intent and what I'g looking for, but unfortunately breaks too many quests I'd prefer to go on.
I've also washed the alternating method of doing Concord up to Museum clear and PA/bobblehead take hold of, simply then never become back inside Museum and Preston stays inside all game. No perk which is a good ane from Preston but used this method sometimes in newgames too.
I'm trying out the suggested reduced radiant quest mods, this way I can sort of accept both worlds - meet Preston and use long plenty to grab perk and gain cleaned version of Castle, then exile him and ensure either radiants no longer popular or just 1 at a fourth dimension.

I just use a bat file that completes all the radiant quests, but doesn't mess with master MM story line.
So I gag his arse..
